Lifeguarding Certification
Description: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel arrive. Students who successfully complete this course will earn a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years.
Course Overview:
Prerequisites: Lifeguard prerequisite skills are designed to ensure candidates meet the physical fitness and swimming requirements necessary to successfully complete and continue the course
General schedule: Most courses are taught using the intensive format over 2 OR 4 days.
Payment is due before in person classes begin. If participant fails any part of Lifeguarding or Lifeguarding Recertification Course (swim tests, CPR/First Aid/AED written tests and water skills or missing a scheduled class) it will result in loss of payment and you will have to retake the entire course and pay the training fee again.

Course Overview:
- Be at least 15 years of age.
- Online material takes approximately 7 hours to complete
- In person training is scheduled for 25 hours
Prerequisites: Lifeguard prerequisite skills are designed to ensure candidates meet the physical fitness and swimming requirements necessary to successfully complete and continue the course
- PREREQUISITE 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest
- Jump into water and fully submerge. Swim 150 yards (6 laps in a 25 yard pool) using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Tread water for two minutes only using their legs. Swim 50 yards (2 laps) using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. While swimming, you must swim continuously. keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good breath control.
- PREREQUISITE 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
- Starting in water, swim 20 yards. Surface dive to depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound brick. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return brick to starting point. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
- Pass the ARC Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED/ written test.
- All female candidates are required to wear a one piece suit for water skills portion.

- Day 1 – Pre-course skills test, entries, approaches, victim recognition, assisting distressed swimmers, rescuing an active drowning victim, rescuing a passive drowning victim
- Day 2 – Performing a primary assessment and treating breathing emergencies, treating cardiac emergencies, and first aid
- Day 3 – Rescuing a spinal victim,
- Day 4 – Strategies for handling situations that differ from practice, lifeguard written exam and practical skills testing
